2 tourists die on way to Darjeeling, 5 injured – Times of India

SILIGURI: Two tourists died and five others, including the driver, sustained injuries after their vehicle met with an accident at Phansidew block’s Bidhannagar on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Ganesh Sarkar (44) and Rana Chakraborty (32) both residents of Nadia district. They were travelling from Nadia and were going towards Darjeeling via Siliguri.
Sources said that the accident was caused when the tourist vehicle hit a lorry-whose tyres were being changed due to a puncture-from behind at a high speed. Locals informed the police who rescued the tourists.
“After a 30-minute operation, five were rescued and sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. Doctors declared two dead while five others are in a critical condition,” said a police officer.
