The Calcutta High Court on Thursday raised concern over the security issues of Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Nandigram MLA Suvendu Adhikari.

A bench of Justice Rajsekhar Mantha observed that the leader of opposition holds the same rank as that of a cabinet minister and review of the security of the Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari’s residence should be done. The Court also suggested certain measures to enhance his security.

The Calcutta High Court directed the Bengal police in co-ordination with the CRPF personnel, deployed for Adhikari’s security, would decide together where CCTV cameras should be installed in and around Suvendu Adhikari’s residence.

After it was mentioned in the court that the CCTV cameras were hampering the privacy of the LoP, the advocate general informed the court that the CCTVs were installed for the security and safety of Adhikari.

The Court also directed the state to put a ban on usage of the loudspeakers near Adhikari’s residence after 8 pm.

The court observed that Adhikari’s residence comes under a sensitive zone and thus proper administrative permission for political rallies or miking should be taken, ahead of any political activities.
