Dhaka-Kolkata flight suffers tail strike during landing – Times of India

KOLKATA: A Dhaka-Kolkata IndiGo flight scraped the tarmac during landing on Kolkata airport on Monday afternoon, causing substantial damage to the aircraft. An inquiry from the aviation regulator has been initiated into the incident.
Photographs obtained by TOI showed damage to the Dhaka–Kolkata 6E 114’s tail section, a sign of what is known as ‘tailstrike’ in aviation parlance.
The tail strike damage occurs when the aircraft is angled too steeply and the plane’s tail or empennage strikes the ground or other stationary object leading to a damage during landing or take off.
The Airbus A321 operating with 200 passengers is still grounded for assessment and repairs at Kolkata airport.
Sources at Kolkata airport said the strike happened during landing but clarified that none of the passengers were affected and the flight had landed safely on Monday afternoon. A post-flight inspection revealed substantial tail strike damage.
“On January 2, 2023, flight 6E 114 operating on A321, VT-ILR had a tail strike during landing at Kolkata. The aircraft was declared grounded at Kolkata for assessment and repairs. The incident is being investigated in detail,” IndiGo said in a statement.
