Kolkata hit-and-run case: Speeding car mows down Aliah University student, friends stage protest – Times Now

Ahmed was reportedly hit by the vehicle in front of the university’s campus. The final-year student was reportedly lying unattended in a pool of blood for almost 10 minutes. He was taken to a hospital by his friends. However, Ahmed was declared.

After the incident, some students of the university blocked one flank of the service road connecting New Town and Chinar Park. They were demanding the arrest of the person who was driving the vehicle. They also demanded the immediate installation of traffic signals and the deployment of traffic constables in the area.

The incident also sparked a political controversy, as the car reportedly had a ‘Sunmarg’ press sticker. Notably, the daily newspaper allegedly belongs to Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and MLA Vivek Gupta.

An investigation has been launched into the matter. Till now, the police have not been able to identify the person who was driving the car. However, the police managed to find the vehicle. It was located in a garage.

Meanwhile, in another hit-and-run case which surfaced from the national capital on Monday, a 20-year-old girl died after she was by a car for around 13 kilometres on January 1. The girl was reportedly heading home on her scooty when a car hit her and dragged her for around 47 minutes. The incident sparked protests in Delhi. The police arrested five people who were in the car.
