KOLKATA: The publishers and booksellers guild along with all other stakeholders including, civic, government officials, police and fire services officials conducted an inspection of the Salt Lake Central Park fair ground on Tuesday to chalk up the plans to spruce up the infrastructure of the fair ground which has been renamed by chief minister Mamata Banerjee as ‘Boi Mela Prangan’.
Among the proposals which have been discussed are to set up watch towers at four corners of the fair ground, more CCTV cover, improved drainage, fire fighting systems and drinking water facilities and a pedestrian subway to connect the parking lot with the book fair ground.
Publishers and Booksellers Guild president Sudhangshu Sekhar De said that some permanent infrastructure proposals have been placed before the government authorities. “We have asked for a police and fire control room which could be set up on a permanent basis as not only the book fair, other fairs are also to be held at the ground. Also, we set up watch towers during the fair. The proposal is to have permanent watch towers at four corners of the ground as per mentioned in the map,” De said.
Among other plans discussed are to have more number of toilet facilities along with drinking water facilities. Also, the existing roads can be further spruced up. No more concretisation is required. Instead, there can be small gardens and more trees around the fair ground,” said an official.
Also among the plans discussed is to set up pedestrian underpass from the car parking lot beside Unnayan Bhavan to fair ground gate no 5.
Guild officials said that artist Suvaprasanna will be designing the ‘Boi Mela Prangan’ calligraphy which is to be finalised by the CM for putting up at the main entrance of the fair ground.
