KOLKATA: A cricket betting racket was busted in Rajarhat on Monday evening. Police arrested 13 people and seized 27 cellphones and four laptops from them.
While the majority of the arrested men were residents of Bihar and Jharkhand, some others from Howrah, Kolkata and Barrackpore – who had gathered at the flat to place bets – were also arrested. They were charged with IPC section dealing with cheating and sections under the West Bengal Gambling and Prize Competition Act. “The arrested men have confessed that monetary transactions were made,” said an officer of Bidhannagar commissionerate.
