Kolkata: Mother-son duo of drug dealers sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment – Times of India

KOLKATA: An Alipore court on Wednesday sentenced a mother son duo to 10 years of imprisonment for allegedly running a drug sale and distribution racket in several parts of south Kolkata.
Dipti Das (53) and her son Bapan (36) were picked up from Behala’s Goborjhuri area five years back by Kolkata Police’s narcotics department when 2.5 kgs charas and Rs. 2.8 lakhs in cash was found with them. A team of Kolkata Police’s narcotics department led by senior sub-inspector Ashadur Rahaman, who is currently posted as the additional officer in charge of Kasba police station, had led the operation. Sub inspector AK Chatterjee was the investigating officer of the case and narcotics public prosecutor Suresh Prasad Singh was the state counsel. They had been in judicial custody since then.
On Wednesday Alipore court’s 4th additional district judge, Sujay Sengupta, convicted the duo in the narcotics case and sentenced them to 10 years of imprisonment with Rs one lakh penalty fee each.
“The duo used to operate in large parts of south kolkata including Behala, Tollygunge, New Alipore and Thakurpukur areas selling several types of illegal drugs from home as well as distributing them to other places,” said a senior officer of Kolkata Police.
