In Kolkata, there is a protest by prospective teachers. Candidates who passed the 2016 upper primary exam and qualified have now resorted to the streets to demand their employment. They claimed that even after passing the test, they were still denied employment, and that most of the protestors were women. The sit-in protest has begun among the demonstrators. In the state of West Bengal, the recruitment of teachers had been a particularly divisive and contentious topic. As far as the teacher recruitment test is concerned, senior Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee and his associate Arpita Mukherjee were detained last year on suspicion of taking part in the school jobs fraud.
