BERHAMPORE: Trinamool on Monday nominated Sagardighi block president Debashis Banerjee as its candidate for the February 27 bypoll in the constituency.
This assembly segment fell vacant after the death of former minister Subrata Saha on December 29. After Saha’s death, workers started to paint graffiti seeking votes in favour of TMC, except for writing the candidate’s name. On January 16, CM Mamata Banerjee addressed a public rally at Dhumarpahar in Sagardighi.
After his nomination, Debashis said: “I am a party soldier. I have always done all the duties the party has given me. I am happy and proud as the party has chosen me as a candidate and will try to serve the people .”
