KOLKATA: The East Division police – led by Kolkata Leather Complex Police – has busted a gang that posed as fake customer care service officials of a global e-commerce giant and duped hundreds across the country.
A late-night raid on Thursday led to the arrest of 16 people from a villa complex close to the KLC Main Gate. Three of them are woman. The accused used to put up their numbers on Google so that people searching for customer care numbers came across their contact number and all calls got directed to them.
“Five laptops, three mobiles and five ATM cards were seized. It was learnt that those people were running a call centre impersonating themselves as employees of an e-commerce major,” said DC (East) Gaurav Lal.
