Ganga, Vande Bharat events in PM’s Dec 30 Kolkata visit – Economic Times

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Kolkata on Friday, in his first trip to West Bengal since the assembly election last year.

During the one-day trip, Modi is scheduled to attend the second National Ganga Council meeting in the city. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee will also participate in the meeting.

The PM will inaugurate the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express train at the Howrah station on Friday morning, when he is also likely to launch a number of railway projects, including the Joka-Taratala metro services, people in the know said. He will then head to Indian Navy’s INS Netaji Subhas, where the Ganga Council meeting will be held.

Prior to the meeting, he will pay floral tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at his statue and visit the Namami Gange Exhibition at the Parade Ground Hanger of INS Netaji Subhas, the people told ET.

Namami Gange is an integrated conservation mission by the Centre which started in June 2014 with a budget outlay of ‘20,000 crore for effective abatement of pollution, and conservation and rejuvenation of the River Ganga.

Modi is scheduled to leave for New Delhi in the afternoon.
