A Trinamool Congress councillor was shot at near Kolkata today, police said. Champa Das, a councillor from the West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, was shot in the leg and has been rushed to a hospital in Kolkata, they said.
“She was shot at near her residence. Further investigation is on,” news agency PTI quoted a senior police officer as saying.
Ms Das had won the election as an Independent but joined the Trinamool Congress in
Earlier in the day, a party worker was allegedly killed, while the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) said one of it’s member was found dead in North 24 Parganas district, the police said today.
The TMC alleged that its member Ashwini Manna was beaten up and killed by the members of the SUCI.
“The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The exact cause can be ascertained only after we get the post-mortem report,” an official said.
The police have arrested 11 people in connection with the clashes, officials said, adding that three more have been detained.
