‘Why this veil?’: HC slams SSC on fudged OMR sheets – Times of India

Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Thursday pulled up the School Service Commission for a “non-transparent” approach in following its directions to make public all 952 School Level Eligibility Test OMR sheets that had been tampered with.
“Why should one have to enter the name and roll number of the candidate to get to see the OMR sheet? Why is this ghoonghat (veil)?” Justice Gangopadhayay said. “The commission should have bared the corruption. The commission is acting on the contrary to hide corruption,” he added.
Justice Gangopadhyay then summoned SSC secretary Arnab Chatterjee to court to express his dismay. Chatterjee appeared at noon on Thursday and submitted that the SSC had uploaded all the modified OMR sheets onto the website. “There are some technology glitches. It will be over soon,” he said.
Justice Gangopadhyay directed the SSC secretary to “break the walls” that came in the way of making the corruption public and asked him to carry out the court order in letter and spirit. Later in the day, in compliance with the HC order, the SSC provided 10 links on its website giving access to the 952 OMR sheets. While 100 sheets each were uploaded to the first nine links, the tenth contained 52.
In another development in the high court, Justice Biswajit Basu took a stern stand on the 1,698 tampered OMR sheets of Group D employees working in state-run schools.
A day after the CBI submitted its report on the sheets, Justice Basu directed the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education to furnish the details of the employees and the schools where they were working. “These people shouldn’t stay in service for a moment. They should be identified immediately,” he said.
The judge didn’t yield to the board’s prayer seeking some time for identification. “You have got these OMR sheets yesterday. The details of the employees can be found by the click of the mouse. You couldn’t prepare the details even today,” Justice Basu said.
