PIL In Calcutta HC Seeks Action Against Persons Approaching Children With Modelling Offers After School Dispersal Hours – Law Trend

Kolkata News

A PIL has been filed in the Calcutta High Court seeking a Standard of Procedure (SOP) regarding the dispersal of children after school after news reports alleged that talent scouts are approaching children with modelling contracts.

News platforms have reported some incidents where burqa-clad women have approached children with modelling offers.

Before the court, the petitioner (Vijay Kumar Singhal) submitted that police have claimed that they have investigated the case and the persons approaching the children are legitimate and merely recruiting children for a fashion show.

The petitioner further said that he was compelled to file the instant PIL because the police’s response was not adequate and they failed to consider the relevant provisions of Child Labour Rules and those related to the offence of kidnapping.

In this context, the petitioner submitted that the case involves children to whom the State is duty-bound to protect and because the police did not consider the gravity of the situation, interference of the High Court is required in the case.
