On Monday, parts of Kolkata were hit by thunderstorm in the afternoon. It was followed by a short drizzle in central and some other parts of south Kolkata.

Relief in store for Kolkata as city might experience rain in middle of next week
However, there might be a chance of heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning at a couple of places. However, it is expected that the extreme weather will not arise.
Fishermen have been banned from going to the sea till September 21 due to the heavy rain in Gangetic West Bengal on 21st. According to the air office, low pressure was formed on the 20th itself.
Kolkata has seen a rather dry monsoon this year so far, with the city experiencing a rain deficit in June, July and August. While Kolkata had a 20% deficit last month, it was a sharp 41% in July and 46% between June 1 and July 16. Lack of low-pressure areas contributed to the rain deficit, said reports.
