Eye on rural polls, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to meet TMC block presidents – Times of India

Kolkata News

Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee will be addressing Trinamool functionaries at Netaji Indoor stadium on September 8 in preparation for the panchayat polls next year. The party leadership has revamped most district committees, including that of youths and women.
Banerjee wants to have direct contact with block presidents, to facilitate which all 1,840 have been asked to attend the meeting. Party MPs and MLAs will also be present.
“While a smear campaign is on by the opposition, it is time to showcase the benefits of various welfare schemes like Swasthya Sathi, Kanyashree, Lakshmir Bhandar, Krishak Bandhu and student credit card,” a senior leader said. He added that the CM would likely direct party functionaries along those lines, as well as encourage women workers to spread awareness on the state’s women-centric benefit schemes.
A senior minister said Banerjee, in a recent meeting at Nabanna, had urged transparency so that TMC did not suffer due to the activities of individuals. “The need is to go for candidates with clean images, as our leader Abhishek Banerjee had said earlier.”
The CM on August 1 had announced that seven new districts would be carved out. In that case, then there would be additional Zilla Parishads and panchayat seats — for which the party needed to be ready, the minister said.
Banerjee will also hold an administrative review meeting on Wednesday to take stock of ongoing projects at Nabanna.
