Kolkata: ED lens on 2 GST numbers to probe Arpita Mukherjee’s business deals – Times of India

KOLKATA: The Enforcement Directorate has focused on two GST numbers registered in Kolkata with five different addresses that might provide the key to the business deals Arpita Mukherjee had with several individuals and companies, which she had not revealed during questioning. Investigators will use the two GST numbers to track payments debited and credited to her account.
Mukherjee started a business from three premises on BT Road, Rathtala, Kamarhati in 2017 and got a GST number for her business. It was the same time when Zamira Sunshines – the real estate company registered at her Club Town residence – was floated. The investigators, however, noticed that the address was different for her nail art salon at Baranagar.
In 2020, Arpita started a nail salon business with another GST number. This time the address was given for a premise on Lake View Road. According to central investigating agency sources, these two GST numbers are registered against her PAN card number.
During her interrogation, sleuths tried to find out the people involved in these businesses. They were looking into high-value transactions she had made in the past few years.
According to sources, Mukherjee had been working with a network of men involved in political activities. Many of them joined her on the recommendations of Partha Chatterjee. This network was also involved in stashing cash at different addresses, the investigators believe.
The ED is also on the lookout of five Trinamool Chhatra Parishad leaders close to Partha who used to handle clients and allegedly bring him the money.
Agency officials have also got hold of several serial numbers noted in a black diary seized from Arpita’s Diamond City South flat. There are several serial numbers which the investigators believe are references of candidates who had paid cash for jobs. Investigators also got hold of some phone numbers.
On Saturday, a team of three officials questioned her for hours in the presence of lady CRPF personnel. Sources in the ED said she denied many of the transactions claiming that she was unaware of them.
