Kolkata: The city is witnessing a dip in temperature again post the revival of the northwesterly wind. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast partly cloudy sky for Tuesday and maximum and minimum temperature to hover around 27 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius respectively.

On Monday, the minimum temperature plunged to 15.8 degrees Celsius, a degree above normal. The northwesterly wind will result in mercury hovering around 15-16 degrees Celsius till February 5, said the Met office.

“Apart from the northwesterly returning, the high-pressure zone above Bay of Bengal, that had been supplying moisture to south Bengal and pulling up the mercury, has now disappeared. Since there is no moisture, the warmth is now gone, paving the way for the return of chill,” said GK Das, director, Regional Meteorological Centre.
