Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Sunday reserved its order on the Enforcement Directorate’s plea over shifting West Bengal Commerce and Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee to Command Hospital instead of state-run SSKM hospital.

“As of now, Court has reserved the judgement and final order will be pronounced shortly,” Chatterjee’s lawyer Ayan Poddar told news agency ANI.

During the hearing, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) gave proposal that Chatterjee can be shifted to some other hospital like All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi or Bhubaneswar, but the court did not say anything about it, the lawyer said.

The court, however, gave a proposal that doctors of AIIMS can be called in Kolkata for the medical checkup of Chatterjee, Poddar said, adding that the final order of the court is awaited.

Chatterjee, who was arrested on Saturday by the ED in connection with its probe into the alleged school jobs scam, was hospitalised in the evening after he complained of uneasiness.

Notably, ED prayed before the magistrate to allow Chatterjee to be taken to Command Hospital instead of state-run SSKM, saying that he a senior minister and his roots are deep in government hospitals, where he can be influential. However, the court ordered Chatterjee to be taken to SSKM Hospital.

“Partha Chatterjee (West Bengal cabinet minister and former Education Minister of the state) is not feeling well. He has developed pain in his heart. We demanded that proper medical facilities should be given to him if ED’s custody is granted,” Chatterjee’s lawyer had said.

Pertinent to mention, the arrests were made at Chatterjee’s residence in Kolkata where the ED team was present since Friday.

Earlier on Friday, ED officials raided the residences of Chatterjee and Paresh Adhikari and several others and recovered huge cash amounting to approximately Rs 20 crore from the residential premises of Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of Chatterjee.

Mukherjee, who was arrested on Saturday, was sent to one-day ED custody by Bankshall Court in Kolkata on Sunday.
