KOLKATA: A 19-year-old youth was gunned down by his friends at Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas on Saturday night.
The victim, Rohit Das, a resident of Shantinibas Pally, worked in Titagarh jute mill. He was drinking liquor with his friends when one of them fired at him.
The youth sustained a bullet injury in his stomach and was declared brought dead at Bhatpara State General Hospital. Three persons, including the mastermind, Karan Jadav, were arrested in this connection on Sunday.
According to the police, Jadav has a criminal past. “We are investigating whether any old rivalry led to the murder of the youth,” said a senior police officer. The victim’s father, Pradip, said, “On hearing the sound of firing, we rushed to the spot and found my son lying in a pool of blood and writhing in pain. While battling with his life, he told us the name of Yadav. The trio forced my son to drink alcohol, after which he was shot dead.”
The youth’s murder happened barely 12 hours after Salauddin Ansari (45), a building materials supplier, had been shot dead by three miscreants in an adjacent area in Bhatpara. Cops arrested two persons, Wasim Akram and Shahajada, while the main accused, Pankaj, is still absconding.
