Thunderstorm likely today, says Met – Times of India

Kolkata News

Kolkata: Parts of Kolkata received a spell of moderate rain on Thursday afternoon as clouds floated into south Bengal from Bangladesh. With easterly winds still carrying in moisture, another thunderstorm and rain have been predicted for Friday. But the temperature is set to rise from the weekend.
Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 36.1 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
The cyclonic circulation brewing over South Andaman Sea would grow into a low-pressure area and intensify further, said the Met office. “Clouds floated into Gangetic Bengal from Bangladesh on Friday, bringing rain and thunderstorms in East Midnapore, Hooghly, East Burdwan and Howrah. South Kolkata got a heavier spell of rain than other parts. With moisture still flowing in, we expect another thunderstorm or rain on Friday,” said Regional Meteorological Centre director G K Das. The rain can be caused by clouds forming in Jharkhand.
He added thunderstorms could dry up from the weekend as moisture incursion weakened. “It has dwindled and from Saturday, we will see the mercury rise,” said Das. “Since May is ideal for cyclones and we had two cyclones at this time since 2020, we are not ruling out the possibility,” said an official.
