Extension of night curfew hits wedding schedules in Kolkata – Times of India

Kolkata News

The extension of the existing COVID-19 curbs in Bengal till December 15 has come as a cause for worry among those who have a wedding in the family or are getting married themselves.
Sonia Bhattacharya, whose wedding is on December 14, said, “My biyer logno is at 1 am. With the night curfew in place, it won’t be possible for my relatives to be there at that time. My parents have requested all our relatives and friends to drop in early so that they can return home early.”
Actress Sayantani Ghosh, who is getting married in the city on December 5, is planning the wedding in such a way that everything ends by 10 pm and the guests face no problems while returning home. “My biyer logno is at 4.50 pm and we’ve asked all our relatives to come in early. The guests have also been requested to come over by 7 pm. If the government has announced night curfew, one must abide by it,” she told us.
Arindam Chatterjee, whose cousin Souvik Ghosh got married on December 1, made sure that they wrapped up by 11 pm. “We organised everything keeping in mind the night curfew. It would have been great if it was lifted, but one has to follow government rules,” he said.
Rongon Neogi, who runs a catering service, is also facing problems because of the night curfew. “A party might end at 10.30-11 pm, but we need time to settle everything and return. The service personnel and cooks also face problems while returning home. Now dinner starts early at weddings. Moreover, as families aren’t sure how many guests will turn up, they are ordering fewer plates. But the number of guests often exceeds estimates,” said Rongon.
Ranjan Panda, another caterer, feels that the government should go easy on people who are having weddings in their family. “Dinner now is ready by 7 pm as guests come in early. So, the families are not spending much on starters. Added to that, because of the night curfew, it is becoming difficult for us to reach home after getting things in order post the party,” he said.
