Police busted a fake call centre in Kolkata and arrested 11 persons for allegedly duping foreign nationals by posing as employees from Amazon’s customer care department.

The illegal call centre was busted after the anti-rowdy squad of Kolkata Police conducted a raid at a building housing IT companies in Central Kolkata on Sunday.

The accused would pose as employees of Amazon and make calls to the United Kingdom for conducting a lifestyle survey. They used different computers each time to make such calls to their “many customers” in the UK, police said.

“Eleven persons were arrested for making calls to the UK as the employee of lifestyle survey of Amazon Customer Care,” a senior Kolkata Police officer said.

All the accused operating this racket were aged between 19 and 36.

Earlier in July, Kolkata Police had raided a similar fake call centre in the city and arrested 12 persons for duping people based in the US and Australia.
