Kolkata Metro focus on online smart card recharge – Times of India

Kolkata News

KOLKATA: Before resumption of services, Kolkata Metro is focusing on the smart card recharging system to avoid crowds at the ticket counters. Posters showing simplified steps for smart card recharges will be distributed among the public and displayed at important locations to encourage commuters to buy tickets or recharge online.
E-posters will be circulated through the social media. The posters titled ‘Now Metro is Digital’ describe the easy steps to recharge the smart cards. A commuter can visit the Metro Railway, Kolkata, website – https://mtp.indianrailways.gov.in – click on the ‘online recharge’ option and fill up the necessary details before making the payment.
For seamlessly recharging the smart card, Metro Railway has tied up with State Bank of India, that will provide the payment gateway. SBI has made special allowances by waiving transaction charges for payment through debit or credit card of other banks.
“So a commuter can sit at home and recharge his smart card using debit or credit card of any bank, for which no bank charges will be levied,” a Metro official said on Sunday, a day after the ministry of home affairs nudged restarting Metro services from September 7.
On June 30, Kolkata Metro general manager Manoj Joshi along with principal chief operations manager Satyaki Nath and senior transport manager Kaushik Mitra had launched the user-friendly system of recharging smart cards online. DS Nirkha, general manager, State Bank of India, eastern zone, was also present. “Commuters will still get the 10% bonus on the recharged amount like before,” he said.
