Expect cooler nights in Kolkata from today: Met – Times of India

KOLKATA: Mercury is on the rise in the city as the maximum temperature had risen above the 30 degrees Celsius mark on Thursday, making it the hottest day in January this year. However, it dipped to 28.9 degrees Celsius on the same day, which was two notches above the normal mark.
While the Met office expects no significant change in daytime temperature, the minimum is set to dip from Saturday onwards.The minimum temperature on Friday was 18.7 degrees Celsius, which was four notches above normal. The mercury is supposed to dip by around two to three degrees from Saturday, said weathermen.
“While we don’t expect any significant change in the day temperature the minimum is expected to dip by about two to three degrees after 24 hours and then we can expect a further dip by February 2,” said Sanjib Bandyopadhyay, deputy director general (meteorology) at Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata.
The chill-bearing northwesterly is expected to start arriving in the city bringing another spell of colder nights, said the Met office.
