Kolkata: Vehicle diversions, parking regulations announced in city for New Year – check detailed traffic advis – Times Now

Kolkata: In order to avoid inconvenience to the public on New Year, Kolkata police announced traffic regulations on several roads.

“Whereas it is necessary for preventing danger, obstruction or inconvenience to the public in connection with New Year’s Eve on 31.12.2022 and New Year’s Day on 01.01.2023, all classes of vehicles and all kinds of traffic including pedestrian traffic for the city of Kolkata shall be regulated in the manner prescribed below as and when considered necessary,” Commissioner of Police Vineet Kumar Goyal.

  • Movement of goods vehicles shall be restricted to move towards Maidan from the following road intersections from 4 pm on December 31 to 04.30 am on January 1 and again from 4 am on January 1 to 12 am on January 2.

— AJC Bose Road & Chowringhee Road crossing (towards north).

Instead, they will be allowed to move along A JC Bose Road, St. Georges Gate Road, Strand Road, A.P.C Road and onwards.

  • Movement of goods vehicles (except for the Kolkata Dock System) will be restricted and/or regulated within the city of Kolkata from 4 pm December 31 to 04.30 am on January 1.

Exceptions

  • — Goods vehicle carrying essential and perishable items like – LPG, POL, Oxygen, Milk, Medicine, Vegetable or fruits etc.

— Port-originated or Port related or Port bound Goods vehicles.

— Light Goods vehicles having gross vehicle weight not exceeding 1600 kg (Ex. TATA ACE, Mahindra Zeeto, Suzuki Super Carry etc).

  • Vehicular traffic shall be regulated in the following manner on 31.12.2022 & 01.01.2023 or as and when considered necessary by the traffic police on duty.

— Park Street shall be `ONE WAY’ from West to East and Shakespeare Sarani shall be East to West between J L Nehru Road and AJC Bose Road (up to 02.00 hrs.)

— Ho-Chi-Minh Sarani shall be `ONE WAY’ from West to East.

— Middleton Street shall be ‘ONE WAY’ from East to West between Camac Street and J L Nehru Road.

— Little Russel Street shall be `ONE WAY’ from South to North. Russel Street shall be ‘ONE WAY’ from South to North.

— Camac Street shall be ‘ONE WAY’ from North to South between Park Street and AJC Bose Road.

— No Vehicles shall be allowed towards Park Street from Royd Street/Free School Street Crossing.

— No Right Turn will be allowed on Russel Street from Park Street & Russel Street Crossing.

— Parking will be allowed on the following road/streets in the manner mentioned below:

a) On the Eastern and Western side along Russel Street necessary the Western side parking may be withdrawn.

b) Parallel to the kerb. If On the Western side along Free School Street between Royd Street & Marquis Street parallel to the kerb.

c) On the Western side along Wood Street and Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road (Wellesley Street) between Royd Street and Albert Road – Parallel to the kerb.

d) Along Middleton Row:

i) North to South stretch- parallel to kerb on the Eastern side of the road.

ii) West to East stretch-parallel to kerb along the Northern side of the road.

  • The following roads shall be made `ONE WAY’ / ‘BOTH WAY’ as and when considered necessary by the police on duty:

a) Royd Street between Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road (Wellesley Street) and Free School Street from West to East.

b) Free School Street between Royd Street Crossing and S N Banerjee Road from North to South.

  • Vehicles of all descriptions will not be allowed to park at the following thoroughfares/roads on December 31 and January 1 as and when considered necessary by the police on duty.

— Park Street.

— Camac Street (Stretch between Park Street / Camac Street & Camac Street / Middleton Street)

— Free School Street (Stretch between Free School Street / Repon Street & Free School Street / Park Street)

— Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road (Stretch between RAK Road / Royed Street & RAK Road / Park Street)

— Wood Street (Stretch between Wood Street / Short Street & Wood Street / Park Street)

— Middleton Street

— Little Russel Street

— Kyd Street Russel

— Street (As and when required)

— Royed Street

  • Vehicular traffic may also be regulated at and around the following places on December 31 and January 1 as and when considered necessary by the police on duty.

— Museum.

— Victoria Memorial.

— Birla Planetarium. Alipore Zoo.

— Paresh Nath Temple.

— Kali Temple at Kalighat.

— Thanthania Kalibari.

— New Market sector on Lindsay Street.

— Birla Mandir on Ashutosh Chowdhury Avenue.

— Millennium Park.

  • Movement of Tram cars will be suspended on R A Kidwai Road & its periphery and Elliot Road from 12.00 pm on December 31 and January 1.
  • Vehicular traffic may also be diverted from any of the arterial and feeder roads by traffic police on duty as and when considered necessary in the interest of the public on the aforesaid dates.
