KOLKATA: An elderly passenger, flying back home in Kolkata from Kathmandu in an Air India flight, complained of chest pain sometime before landing at the city airport on Thursday afternoon and on being taken to the nearest hospital, he was found dead.
The incident happened on Air India flight AI 248.
Airport sources said Howrah resident Mihir Kumar Sarkar was fit when he had boarded the flight from Kathmandu in Nepal around 2.30pm but started feeling sick a few minutes before landing in Kolkata.
The airline crew alerted the pilot who in turn sought special clearance from Kolkata ATC for priority landing following which a team of medics at Kolkata airport checked him and took him to the nearest private hospital on VIP Road in an ambulance.
A senior official of the hospital said doctors went to bring out Sarkar from the ambulance but he was already dead by then.
Officers of NSCBI airport police station informed his family and sent his body for post mortem examination.
