Jharkhand actor murder case: Kolkata cops arrest Riya Kumari’s husband – Times of India

HOWRAH: Howrah police early on Thursday morning arrested Prakash Kumar, husband of actor Riya Kumari who was murdered on NH-16 off Bagnan after several inconsistencies crept up in his statements.
The arrest was made after the state forensics found unusual amount of blood in the back seat of the car and remnants of a bullet shell.
Prakash had claimed that Riya had stepped out of the car to accost the three robbers who were trying to snatch his wallet at gunpoint.
Riya’s family has also lodged a formal complaint against Prakash alleging that their daughter was murdered.
The family alleged that Prakash was physically, and mentally torturing Riya and their marital dispute stemmed from the fact that Riya was more popular and earned more than him.
The police, however, did not want to immediately comment on the motive. Prakash will be produced in a Howrah court on Thursday.
The police will seek more time in custody to question the child.
Riya, a 32-year-old Jharkhand actor and Youtuber, was shot dead allegedly by three unidentified men when she tried to stop them from robbing her husband at gunpoint early on Wednesday on National Highway 16 off Bagnan, 60 kilometres from Kolkata.
Riya, who went by the name Isha Ayla on social media, her husband Prakash, a short filmmaker, and two-and-a-half-year-old daughter were driving from Ranchi to Kolkata to shop for the child’s birthday. Prakash drove to the nearest hospital with his injured wife but Riya had died by then.
Prakash, the only witness, was questioned several times by police, who have also sought help from counsellors to console the child.
