Kolkata: Kolkata Metro’s Joka-Taratala metro corridor (Purple Line) will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. The much-awaited Joka-Taratala stretch of the Joka-Esplanade metro project will be virtually inaugurated by the PM from the Howrah station, the Kolkata Metro officials said.

The trial runs on this Rs 2477 crore stretch were conducted since September and it has got clearance from the Commissioner of Railway Safety to begin the commercial operation. Metro Railway General Manager Arun Arora inspected passenger amenities at different stations of the stretch last week.

Stations

The Joka-Taratala stretch is part of the Joka-Esplanade Metro Purple Line. This stretch has six stations – Joka, Thakurpukur, Sakher Bazar, Behala Chowrasta, Behala Bazar and Taratala.

Ticket

The minimum ticket charge will be Rs 5 and the maximum fare will be Rs 20 for commuting on this route. It will cost Rs 5 to travel from Joka to Thakurpukur and Sakher Bazar. From Joka to Behala Chowrasta and Behala Bazar, the ticket charge is Rs 10. It will be Rs 20 from Joka to Taratala.

The Metro will give concession for tourist smart cards, which will cost Rs 250 with a security deposit of Rs 80. Cardholders can avail of unlimited rides for three days. The second type of tourist smart card will cost Rs 550 with Rs 80 deposit. This card offers unlimited Metro rides for five days.

The Indian Railways has spent a total of Rs 2,477.25 crore to complete this project out of which Rs 635 crore has been spent to set up the Metro Car Depot at Joka.
