KOLKATA: A man was arrested for allegedly stalking and molesting a 17-year-old girl over phone as well as in person.
Abhijit Biswas — claiming himself to be a part-time lecturer at a private B Ed college in Bashirhat in West Bengal — was arrested by Baguiati Police on Wednesday after he had allegedly tried to sexually assault the young complainant in the middle of the road in Keshtopur.
The woman screamed for help upon which locals nabbed the man and handed him over to cops.
The man was booked under IPC sections 509 (molestation), 354 D (stalking) and relevant sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
He was produced before a Barrackpore court where he was sent to judicial custody.
According to the complaint, the girl had met the man on December 14 at Keshtopur Samarpally where he offered to give private tuition to the girl and took her as well as her parents phone numbers.
The girl alleges in the complaint, since that day, the man had been harassing her and her family members with calls and text messages.
“On Wednesday, the man called the girl again to his tutorial to sort the issue and made indecent proposals while trying to touch her,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar Commissionerate.
Cops said they are checking the credentials of the man – an arts graduate and are verifying whether he actually teaches at the B Ed college.
