Kolkata has already gotten into the festive mood. Celebrations have started in many places and colourful lights and stars started glittering in several locations, including Park Street and Bow Barracks.

On Tuesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the renowned Kolkata Christmas Festival at Allen Park in Park Street. Thousands of people from Kolkata and outside will reach Park Street for the festival, which is one of the largest dedicated Christmas carnivals in India. Bands and various choir groups will perform at Allen Park during the festival. Christmas parades, carols and other cultural events will also take place.

Other locations like St Paul’s Cathedral and Bow Barracks will also witness thousands of people during Christmas and New Year Days. Bow Barracks and the entire Park Street have already been illuminated with special thematic lights and neon bulbs.

Kolkata police have made elaborate arrangements in the city to ensure safety and manage the crowd. As many as 1200 police officials have been deployed in Park Street. The entire area has been divided into 12 zones and each zone will be supervised by a Deputy Commissioner.
