No-Covid Sunday, just 1 on Monday in West Bengal – Times of India

KOLKATA: Bengal recorded no fresh Covid infection on Sunday – a first in two years and nine months – and just one case on Monday, but experts said it would be premature to declare the pandemic had ended, even if locally, saying the zero daily case-count had to be sustained for that to happen.
Experts said the number of cases had to be zero for “several” consecutive days to conclude that the pandemic had gone. But since the number of tests conducted on Sunday was low (just 1,664), positive cases could again be recorded, some feared. On Monday, the number of tests was even smaller: 671.
In November, the number of new cases reported daily had come down to single digits. “Covid has now turned into any viral infection,” said pulmonologist Raja Dhar. “The number of positive cases will eventually turn zero,” he added.
The third wave had started in Kolkata almost exactly a year ago.
