Kolkata remains cloudy with a few rain spells – Times of India

Kolkata News

KOLKATA: The Kolkata sky remained covered with clouds on Wednesday morning with pockets of the city and its fringes receiving a few spells of rain. The Met office, however, said the morning showers had nothing to do with the tropical cyclone that might be forming over the Bay of Bengal around Kali Puja on October 23.
Officials at Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Kolkata said the system that is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm is still in the form of a cyclonic circulation over the Andaman Sea. This system is expected to transform into a low pressure area by Thursday and turn into a depression by October 22, before it develops into a cyclonic storm in the following 48 hours.
“We will be in a better position to evaluate the system further once the low pressure area develops. It is too early to predict the intensity and the course of the cyclone,” said Sanjib Bandyopadhyay, deputy director, general meteorology.
Nabanna has alerted all Kali Puja organisers to ensure extra measures to make their pandals withstand the cyclone.
