Kolkata: The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation is planning to start medical diagnostic facilities at the metro railway stations in the city soon. The facility will be available at all stations in the north-south corridor from Kavi Subhas to Dakshineswar. The movie is a part of the corporation’s efforts to augment passenger amenities in metro stations.

“Diagnostic and collection centres are going to be set up in unutilised spaces in the metro premises. Various reputed diagnostic centres of the city have already shown interest in setting up such units at metro stations,” a senior metro official said in a statement.

The passengers can now undergo blood tests or pathological tests at stations and the reports of the tests will be available online, the official added.

Commuters welcomed the decision and opined that such a move will be a great help for the city residents, especially for those having a busy life schedule. People need not have to find extra time for visiting the laboratories as they can do it on their way to offices or homes, they said.

The Kolkata metro has two operational lines at present. The line from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash is 31.36 km long and a smaller line from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah is 9.1 km long. Four other lines are in various phases of construction. The metro operates around 300 daily trips carrying more than 700,000 passengers

Kolkata metro is owned and funded by the Ministry of Railways and is the only metro in the country to be controlled by Indian Railways.
