Kolkata traffic police list spots for urgent repairs – Times of India

Kolkata News

Kolkata: The Kolkata Traffic Police on Monday prepared a list of roads that need to be repaired urgently. The list, different from the one for the upcoming festive season, was prepared in less than 10 hours. It has been categorised into those roads that are causing accidents and the those that are leading to traffic congestion.
The list has been mailed to KMC, KMDA, Port Trust, PWD and the HRBC, custodians of different roads across the city.
“We wanted this to be treated as an SOS by the agencies. Hence, instead of listing all damaged stretches, an annual exercise which we completed earlier, we have sent this list of spots where immediate repairs are required,” said an officer.
The list includes multiple small stretches on EM Bypass, DH Road, MG Road, Strand Road (near Merchant Office at Posta), AJC Bose Road, Alipore Road, Burdwan Road, CR Avenue and Sahapur Road.
Senior officers said the names include stretches that need major repair as well as those that need minor patchwork. Police sources are especially worried about the roads in the Port and added areas, which are in bad shape leading to traffic mess. “The potholes, formed mostly due to accumulated rainwater, around 8-10 inches deep, are dangerous for two-wheelers,” said an officer.
Now that the traffic cops have pinpointed the bad and broken roads, the civic agencies are expected to swing into action. Several of these points have already seen the commissioning of repairs, like CR Avenue, said officers.
