Kolkata: The urban development (UD) department has now issued a ban on dogs and cycles in green verges in Salt Lake which has angered citizens who are questioning the grounds on which the ban is being implemented.
A similar ban prohibiting dogs was earlier issued in parks and green verges of New Town.

The pet owners and dog lovers of the area sought the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials for answers, but the civic body said that this was not their decision as the green verges were under the UD department’s jurisdiction.

The residents who do not own pets said they do not support the ban but expect a responsible behaviour from pet owners.

The BE block committee said that some residents were complaining about walking tracks being dirtied by dogs. While some pet owners carry scoops to clean their pet’s poop, most don’t, the committee said.
