ED lens on ‘investments’ in textile co, real estate firms – Times of India

Kolkata News

Kolkata: After a search of Arpita Mukherjee’s Belgharia flat, agency officers unearthed documents that suggested a textile company was run from the premises. Incorporated in 2012, the company — Ananta Texfab — had the flat as its registered office. The investigators said they had reasons to believe that like other two companies that operated from the Tollygunge flat, Mukherjee might have exited from a key position at Ananta Texfab. They also believe that she made “huge investments” in the company that deals in spinning, weaving and finishing textiles.
ED sources said the seized documents also pointed to two real estate firms, floated around 2017. They said the last meetings of these firms were officially recorded on November 30, 2017. Three directors of these firms, in records available with ROC — one among them a woman, apart from two property dealers — might be asked to record their statements.
ED officers continued with questioning Chatterjee over the last 48 hours, sometimes alone and sometimes with Mukherjee, about documents seized from his and Mukherjee’s residences. “The cross-questioning has provided us with certain leads,” a source said.
All this is apart from Sentry Engineering Pvt Ltd and Echhey Entertainment Pvt Ltd, which Mukherjee used to run along with her brother-in-law Kalyan Dhar as director. Sleuths came across another document that indicated that Chatterjee’s “close aide” also floated another company — Symbiosis Merchants — within a month of that, from her residence on Nawab Abdul Latif Street. Mukherjee engaged in business with a real estate firm headquartered on Jamini Roy Road, Kolkata, the following year.
“We are yet to get any more seizure list or attachment order from the ED. In fact, we were unable to even meet her,” said Mukherjee’s lawyer, Niladri Bhattacharya.
