Calcutta High Court allows BJP meeting in Howrah on July 21 with conditions – India Today

Kolkata News

The Calcutta High Court allowed the Bharatiya Janata Party to hold a public meeting at Uluberia in West Bengal’s Howrah district on Thursday, July 21.

However, the court said the meeting can be held between 8 pm to 10 pm only and that the BJP will ensure adherence to law and order.

The permission for the BJP meeting, scheduled for the day Trinamool Congress will hold a massive martyr’s day rally in Kolkata, was earlier denied by the police. The BJP had then moved the Calcutta High Court.

The high court added certain conditions for the BJP meeting:

–The court said since the area has witnessed several law and order problems in the past, the speakers and attendees shall not make any provocative speeches or show any content (audio /visuals) which can invite communal unrest.

–Police shall ensure that the proposed venue does not disrupt traffic on the highway.

–The court said that the party could organise a political meeting at Mansatala ground, which is adjacent to the BJP party office in Uluberia.
