KOLKATA: A fake Covid-19 testing racket was busted by Bidhannagar police as a man in his 20s was arrested for allegedly duping hundreds of patients and their family members by providing dubious Covid RTPCR test report by faking the name and logo of a popular diagnostic institute.
Priyam Mondal, a resident of Amtala was arrested on the basis of a complaint registered by the owner of the original diagnostic firm after he started receiving complaints from aggrieved patients and found a dubious website using the name and logo of his diagnostic centre and charging money from people while promising home collection of samples and quick online delivery of reports.
Probing into the incident, officers of Bidhannagar cyber crime police station found the man, an engineer by qualification, also used to put in a fake doctor’s signature to make the reports look genuine.
Cops raided the Amtala address of Mondal on Wednesday night and arrested him from his home. Several fake reports and cellphones were found in his possession. He was produced before a Bidhannagar court on Thursday and is currently in police custody.
“We are questioning him to find out about other members in his group who are likely to be part of the crime,” said the officer.
