Kolkata News

KALIMPONG: The relatives of Chodup Lepcha, the constable who killed himself after firing rounds near the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission on Friday, have left for Kolkata on Saturday evening, to procure his body. The family told TOI that Lepcha had spent quality time while he was home for a week-long break.
It was learnt that Lepcha spoke to his sister Yangmit on Friday morning before he left for his duty. “He called me around 8:40am on Friday, spoke for a while, and told me that he will call me after his duty,” said Yangmit .
Lepcha used to stay with his brother and sister-in-law each time he visited Kalimpong. In his recent visit, he told his sister-in-law, Pramila Pradhan, that he wanted to get married during his next visit.
“He asked me to look for a girl as he wanted to get married during his next leave,” said Pramila. Lepcha’s last rites will take place at his house in Lolay, once the body arrives.
“We have no idea when they will return with the body. Everything will depend on the official process in Kolkata,” said Kuten Lepcha, his cousin.
