Kolkata: Mother daughter die in purported suicide pact in Salt Lake – Times of India

Kolkata News

KOLKATA: A young woman and her mother supposedly committed suicide at their Salt Lake home drinking poison exactly a month since the father had died. Sneha Ghosh(30) and her mother Sampurna (56) left a signed suicide note beside the man’s garlanded photograph.
The family also left Rs 20,000 and had asked a neighbour in the note to use it for their last rites. It was only last night that Sneha had changed her WhatsApp DP to a family photograph of all three of them together.
The family had kept all taps in the house open and the drains clogged to ensure neighbours and relatives at ground floor noticed water overflowing the house and intervened to ensure the bodies don’t rot at home for long. Cops have found a bottle of poison-like substance at the home and suspect the mother-daughter duo had drunk it causing their death but are awaiting a post mortem examination report for a confirmation.
The ghastly incident happened at Salt Lake CD 174 where the family – Snehasish Ghosh, his wife Suparna and daughter Sneha — lived at the top floor of their three storeyed house. Snehasish’s brother lived on the ground floor with his family.
Local councilor, Tulsi Sinha Roy, who knew the family well for several years said they were a very jovial family but had possibly broken down emotionally since the man’s death.
“Sneha was a bright student and had done her post graduation in psychology from Rajabazar Science College. She had got married but had got divorced within a year of marriage and used to live with her parents only. She was currently employed with a reputed private firm in Pune and had been working from home for the last two years. It doesn’t seem the family was under financial stress but the suicide looks much the fall out of an emotional outburst that the family possibly couldn’t handle after the man’s death,” said Sinha Roy.
