Posta killers held from Agra after Kolkata tip-off – Times of India

KOLKATA: A joint team from the detective department of Kolkata Police, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (UPATS) and Agra Police arrested three persons from Agra in UP in connection with the robbery and murder of a 61-year-old jeweller who was found dead at his office on Shibtala Street at Posta.
Cops recovered 5.1kg gold and a huge amount of silver, which were allegedly stolen from the office of the jeweller, Dilip Kumar Gupta. Cops pegged the worth of the recovered items at Rs 2.8 crore. The victim had been looking after the office of his son-in-law for the last one-year-and-a-half.
“The three accused, Aligarh resident Roop Kumar Kushwaha (35), Meerut resident Sushil Gupta (28) and Ghaziabad resident Karan Verma (27), were arrested from Fatehabad in Agra around 10.30am on Monday. They were produced in a court there and Kolkata Police have sought their transit remand for investigation,” said joint CP (Crime) Murlidhar Sharma.
The accused were planning to flee to Rajathan when they landed in the police net, said UP ATS officers.
“The motive behind the murder is robbery. However, none of the accused worked in the jeweller’s office. Prima facie, it seems that they were either roped in with a promise of huge booty or hired to commit the crime. We are questioning an employee of the office in this regard. There is a possibility that he might be arrested for masterminding the entire crime,” said an officer.
According to sources, the employee claimed that the three are his friends whom he informed that a big dealing of gold will take place on Sunday.
The employee claimed he had no idea that the accused would pose as customers and enter the chamber of the victim to commit the murder followed by the robbery.
“However, we have found evidence that this employee provided some leads to the accused. Hence, he has been put under detention,” said a police source.
