KOLKATA: The inauguration of the corridor by Prime Minister Narendra Modi found echoes in civic poll bound Kolkata where a number of BJP councilors continued to offer prayers at the local temples to commemorate the “divya Kashi-Bhavya Kashi” campaign.
BJP leaders in Kolkata feel that there are at least 26 wards where there is a sizable population of people from states like Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat. “The Sanatanis across the country are now coming under one umbrella. In Bengal, Sanatani Hindus are also feeling the importance of working towards a cause to restore our heritage. We had a very vibrant response in Kolkata,” said Agnimitra Paul, president of the women’s wing of the party in the state.
On Monday morning, Bengal Bjp president Sukanta Majumdar and national vice president Dilip Ghosh had attended at least four programmes at temples in Kolkata. Navin Mishra, candidate of the ward 63 arranged for a yajna at a temple in the Park Street-Camac Street area.
“We have started performing yajna and special puja for the past few days during the buildup of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor inauguration. There are devout Hindus who were looking forward to participating in the programme. Although they could not go to Kashi, they were happy to offer puja at the temples,” Mishra said. Bengal BJP leaders feel that there are at least 26 wards which have a sizeable population of the people from north India. Many of them are attending puja at local temples.
