Add WBBSE as respondent: Calcutta HC to petitioners – Times of India

Kolkata News

Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Thursday, while hearing a writ petition on alleged foul play in the appointment of 25 people by West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE), directed the petitioners to add the board as a respondent. It will hear the matter again on November 22.
Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay passed the directive after the West Bengal Central School Service Commission secretary filed a rectified affidavit, stating that none of the five SSC regions sent such “recommendation letters” after the last date on May 4, 2019.
“I direct the West Bengal Secondary Education Board president to file an affidavit stating from where the board got the recommendation letters on the basis of which appointments were made,” the court ordered. The board president was told to file the affidavit by 3.30pm on November 22.
The HC also directed the board president “to take into custody all receiving registers… when the board office received the recommendations from the SSC or some other authorities or persons”.
Justice Gangopadhyay, after hearing counsel for petitioners Bikash Bhattacharya — who submitted at least 500 more appointment letters based on such recommendation letters — directed all the people to be added as respondents.
Earlier in the day, the HC declined to accept the affidavit the School Service Commission had filed following the court directive on Wednesday. The court directed the SSC secretary to “affirm” the claim that no recommendation was made from the five SSC regions for appointment of the 25 people. The court also directed the SSC secretary to mention the names of the regional secretaries who gave him the information.
