Kolkata businessman shot at in attack by 15-18 men, hospitalised – India Today

A businessman was shot at in the early hours of Monday after his car was stopped by 15-18 motorcycle-borne men in south Kolkata’s Elgin area.

The Howrah-based businessman, Pankaj Singh, was returning home with his friends around midnight when his car was stopped near Gorky Sadan in the upscale locality, police said.

The gang assaulted Singh as he stepped out of his car, and one of them shot at him, hitting his right hand, police added.

POLICE SUSPECT PROFESSIONAL RIVALRY

Later, Singh was admitted to a hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.

No arrests have been made in the incident so far.

“It seems to be a matter of business rivalry,” PTI quoted an officer of the Shakespeare Sarani police station.

“We are talking to the eyewitnesses as well as his friends who were with him. The footage of the CCTVs in that area is being checked. Our investigation is on. The businessman is stable at the moment,” he added.
