Depressed after mother’s demise, 24-year-old youth commits suicide in Kolkata – Times Now

Kolkata: In a tragic incident, a 24-year-old youth, who was battling depressing following the demise of his mother, allegedly committed suicide by jumping off an 11-storey building in Woodburn Park locality of Kolkata in West Bengal.

As per reports, the now-deceased youth, identified as Sidhant Sikhani, was an MBA, and his family owns a successful business of electrical equipment in the city’s Chandni Chowk area. On Monday morning, while residents of the building were preparing to celebrate Holi, Sikhani jumped off the top floor and died.

Police said the now-deceased youth got depressed after the death of his mother two years ago. “His mother passed away two years ago and he slowly stopped talking before going into depression. He was under a lot of medication and the family had hoped he would come out of it,” a report by The Times of India quoted a police officer as saying.

After he jumped off the top floor, he was rushed to SSKM hospital, where medics pronounced him dead. His post-mortem report is awaited, police said, adding that inquest proceedings have been initiated.

Another incident

In another incident, a hotelier allegedly ended his life by hanging himself at his hotel in Karnataka’s Bengaluru on Friday, as he was tired of his illicit affair with the daughter of one of his employees. Reportedly, the man’s wife had recently confronted him after she learnt about his affair. 

In yet another incident, an elderly COVID-19 patient allegedly died by suicide at a government hospital in Nagpur city of Maharashtra on Monday evening.

The patient, identified as Purushottam Aappaji Gajbhiye (81), was found hanging in the bathroom of the COVID-19 ward of the Government Medical College and Hospital around 5:30 pm on Monday. Police have filed an accidental death case in connection with the incident.
