Calcutta HC to hear BJP yatra PIL tomorrow – Times of India

Kolkata News

KOLKATA/BERHAMPORE: Calcutta high court on Tuesday said it would hear on Thursday a PIL seeking a stop to BJP’s ‘parivartan yatra’ across Bengal. The petitioners had urged for an interim order stalling the rallies till February 11, but a division bench of justices Rajesh Bindal and Aniruddha Roy said the matter would be heard first.
In Berhampore, meanwhile, BJP’s yatra organisers tried to take the ‘rath (chariot)’ to Madhupur party office on Tuesday, triggering a stand-off with police.
Earlier, police had halted the rally for a day and altered route in the wake of security arrangements for chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit. The organisers too had assured police that they would not hold a procession on Tuesday.
