The eatery was locked from inside

BHANGOR: Two minor workers and their shop owner were charred to death when a fire in a nearby godown spread to their fast-food shop at a wholesale vegetable market in Ghatakpukur on Saturday morning.
According to shoppers who had gone to the market early on Saturday, the fire broke out inside a kerosene oil godown. The fire spread to other stores in no time. Among the shops that caught fire first were a mobile store and the fast-food shop.
Shop owner Mosaref Molla (42) from Gobindapur and his minor employees Mumtajul (15) and Rakibul
(17) — both brothers — were trying to salvage uncooked food from inside the shop when a gas cylinder exploded. Cops, firemen and locals tried to rescue them but the shop’s shutter was locked from inside.
Realizing that the trio were trapped inside, policemen, firemen and locals broke down one of the walls of the shop, only to retrieve the charred bodies of Mosaref, Mumtajul and Rakibul.
Baruipur additional SP Indrajit Basu said, “The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.”
A meeting of all shopowners was convened in the evening to discuss how to ensure easy access for fire servicemen and their vehicles in case a fire broke out again.
