Amit Shah likely to visit West Bengal next week – Times of India

KOLKATA: A day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to his Twitter handle raising concern over the law and order situation in the state, Shah on Friday asked leaders in Bengal to make arrangements for a two-day tour to the state on December 19.
Shah had also called up BJP leaders Kailash Vijayvargiya and Mukul Roy to ask about their health.
Bengal BJP sources indicated that Shah on Friday morning called up Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh to get details of the chain of events since Thursday afternoon. “We were expecting that Amitji might want to visit Bengal. On Friday morning it was confirmed,” said a Bengal BJP leader.
Shah had on Thursday tweeted that political violence in Bengal is on the rise and it is sad for those who believe in democratic process. “The Bengal government will have to answer the peace loving people of the state,” he tweeted. “Amitji is concerned about the developments. He called up in the morning to know the details of the incident. He was also asking if there was any kind of provocation behind the attacks on Naddaji’s convoy on Thursday,” Mukul Roy said.
Shah, sources indicated is likely to visit two districts—North 24 Parganas and Birbhum where he is likely to attend a few programmes involving locals. “He is interested in meeting the matua community representatives. We are trying to arrange a meeting at either Barasat or Bongaon,” said the Bengal BJP leader. “It seems that Shah is likely to address the Matua community regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act,” he said. On Thursday, BJP’s national president J P Nadda indicated that the government is intending to roll out the CAA soon after the rules are framed. Nadda said that CAA will be rolled out in Bengal immediately after the rules are put in place. Bengal BJP leaders have requested Shah to attend a programme at the Krishnanagar and Mayapur on December 19.
Shah is also scheduled to go to Vishwabharati during the two-day tour. “During his last tour, Amitji wanted to meet the locals in Birbhum and visit Vishwabharati. We are trying to arrange a meeting there as well,” said BJP leader.
