Kolkata Police crackdown on lockdown rumour mongers – Times of India

Kolkata News

KOLKATA: City Police has initiated legal proceedings against a viral social media post, which claimed the state is entering into a 48-hour stricter lockdown from Thursday. Cops said an old article was being circulated in social media to create panic. “Legal action is being initiated for spreading fake news,” cops said in a statement. The post, which is being circulated since Monday, claimed all essential services, including flights, will be stopped.
A fresh MHA guideline on Tuesday said states shall not impose any local lockdown outside the containment zones, without prior consultation with the Central government. Lockdown shall be implemented only inside containment zones till November 30 and even within these containment zones, essential activities will be allowed. Information about containment zones will be made available to the public.
